Price drops expected after benchmark reaches 5-year highs: Iron Ore Market Analysis

Rising iron ore prices continued to push the average cost of pig iron production higher in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The five-year high iron ore prices climbed even higher last week. The benchmark spiked on Tuesday and Friday last week as the market reacted to latest data showing blast furnace utilization rates rose to 91.19% and that iron ore port stocks have started to shrink. The iron ore market is still affected by the supply disruptions in Brazil and shipments have not completely returned to the usual volumes, as we detailed last week.
