US stainless prices to jump in April due to surcharge increases: American Highlights

While it is too early to know for sure, we believe that US surcharges should be flat to slightly up in May, depending upon whether nickel and iron continue to move up.

US stainless prices to continue to move upwards in April
While base prices remain unchanged month on month, transaction prices for all major grades of US stainless steel products will see significant upward movement in April. This is on that back of across the board raw material surcharge increases. This comes on the back of a 6.4% increase for nickel reference prices, a 7.1% increase for chrome, a 9.5% increase for molybdenum and a 5.5% increase for iron.

As a result, raw material surcharges for grade 304 stainless are moving up 13% from March to an average of $0.6723/lb., while the adders for other grades are following suit with those for grade 316 stainless increasing 10.68% to $0.9506/lb., for grade 201 stainless increasing 9.4% to $0.4760/lb., for grade 430 stainless rising 9.9% to $0.2680/lb. and the surcharges for grade 409 stainless also moving up 9.9% month...
