Prices slip as market considers supply: Americas Market Analysis


The bottom may be approaching for ERW linepipe pricing as HR coil price declines are reaching an end.

US prices continue to dip
Linepipe prices in the USA fell again in February, as much as $30/tonne for domestic ERW material. Imported tonnage on offer was even more competitive as quota countries strive to move as much material as they can in the early part of the year. The quota countries had been offer pipe for prices similar to domestic prices late last year to make up for lower volumes, but now that demand from drilling infrastructure looks to be moderating, producers want to get as much material booked as possible.

The bottom may be approaching for ERW linepipe pricing, however, as HR coil price declines are reaching an end. Domestic steelmakers floated two price increases in the past four weeks signaling that the price had reached a floor. Nevertheless, lead times still remain short for steelmakers, suggesting that price cuts will end but there is little support...
