Brazil pig iron prices to continue recovery in March: South America Market Analysis

Unlike 2015, when MPI prices were sliding throughout most of the year, we do not expect this to happen this year.

January merchant pig iron (MPI) exports from Brazil jumped to the highs last seen in 2015. The volume reached 316,050 tonnes in January, according to figures released by the country's foreign trade ministry, MDIC, with 44% of the total shipped to the United States. This was the highest monthly export volume since December 2015. November-January are traditionally the weakest months seasonally in terms of domestic demand for MPI in Brazil, due to lower steel output...
