Chrome ore and alloy markets to remain cautiously optimistic: Ferro-alloy Market Analysis


China’s leading stainless steel mills have rolled over their high-carbon ferro-chrome tender prices for February.

Global ferro-chrome prices stabilise as market enters traditionally quiet period of Chinese New Year holidays. Having avoided major falls seen through the latter half of 2018, prices have been hovering around long-term (since 2001) averages lately. The long-term real price of spot market high-carbon ferro-chrome in Europe sits around $1 per lb (chrome contained), while the long-term average price of high-carbon ferro-chrome in the Chinese spot market is $0.80 per lb (chrome contained). With respective prices for these products being not overly high or overly low in historical terms, at $1.005 per lb and $0.92...
