Iron ore price forecasts upwardly revised: Iron Ore Market Analysis

Premiums for higher-grade iron ore products bottomed soon after the previous dam disaster involving Vale back in 2015.

Iron ore prices posted record increases in the pre-holiday week ended Friday February 1, following a dam collapse near Vale’s mine in Brumadinho, Brazil, a week earlier. Fastmarkets MBIOI62 index averaged $82.05 per tonne cfr Qingdao last week, up by $7.14 per tonne, the sharpest week-on-week increase in almost two years since the week ended February 17, 2017. The benchmark has sustained an uptrend, on a weekly average basis, since the first week of December last year, most lately affected by re-stocking activity prior to the Lunar New Year.
