Taiwan steel mills maintain strong margins as scrap prices fall: Asia (Exc.China) Market Analysis

Taiwanese steel mills have restricted their bookings for HMS scrap both from the import market and from domestic sellers as the Lunar New Year period approaches, one trader in the country said.

Prices for ferrous scrap imported to Taiwan have been on a downward trend over the last three months. The price for US-origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) in containers fell to an average of $265 per tonne cfr Taiwan in January, down $65 (or 20%) since October 5 and the lowest price seen since July of 2017.
