European Commission to extend trade protection measures: European Market Highlights


Taking a look at prices of hot-dipped galvanized steel (HDG), we see that prices are yet to experience any seasonal rebound typically associated with the early months of the calendar year.

Tighter monetary policy, the continued potential for an escalation of the China-USA trade war, and a general slowdown in economic growth all continue to cloud global steel markets as 2019 begins. Indeed, the general sentiment among market participants with regard the steel industry in particular and the global economy in general is probably at its most nervous since 2009, and before that 1999.

Taking a look at prices of hot-dipped galvanized steel (HDG), we see that prices are yet to experience any seasonal rebound typically associated with the early months of the calendar year. For sure, it is still early in the year as of writing, with market participants in some countries only just returning from vacations the week beginning January 7, but the mood remains cautious.
