NPI production forecasts increased: Nickel Highlights

In its last two reports, the INSG reported smaller monthly deficits, of 8,200 tonnes in August and 9,000 tonnes in September.

The INSG released its latest supply/demand data just this past week, providing us with an opportunity to test our theory that the global refined nickel market has been moving closer to balance since the summer from big deficits earlier in the year. Slower growth in stainless steel production and accelerating NPI production are the two key themes driving the more balanced market, we believe, and a slowdown in the pace of LME stock withdrawals seems to support our thesis.
