Downside risks mounting for still-strong Japanese domestic scrap market: Asia (Exc.China) Market Analysis


Unsurprisingly, export volumes dropped while domestic demand rose in the year-to-date.

Japanese domestic scrap prices have outperformed export tags for the past four months. On a weekly basis, HMS#2 prices delivered Tokyo and Osaka have been higher than fob quotations since September 7, according to Tex Report. The discount averaged $11 per tonne over the period. As the first chart shows, both local and export prices have been declining over the past month, however.
