Extent of export dependency defined August’s scrap price dynamics in Europe: Europe Market Analysis
In the early-August monthly settlements, UK domestic scrap prices for 1&2 old steel dropped by £15 ($20) to £183 per tonne delivered, underperforming prices on the European continent.
UK local prices decreased more sharply than rates in the continental Europe in August. Average prices for Northern Europe-origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) fell to $309.21 per tonne cfr Turkey in August, down by $29 per tonne month on month from the Julys $337.90 per tonne average. British exposure to this market has caused UK HMS export prices to drop $34 over the same period.
