Coking coal prices bounce back: Coking Coal and Coke Market Analysis
We said earlier in February that hard coking coal was relatively undervalued compared to premium material from Australia in particular and that the high premium was not sustainable.
The coking coal price recovery held strong last week as prices rose for a second consecutive week. Metal Bulletins coking coal prices reached a temporary floor at the end of July and have since commenced a path of recovery, gaining 9% for premium hard coking coal fob Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) so far in August and averaging $187.08 per tonne on the week ending Friday August 17. Similarly, second-tier coking coal fob Australia rose 7% in the same period and Metal Bulletins index averaged $164.61 per tonne the week...
