US long product prices are a mixed bag amid market uncertainty: US Long Product Highlights
Domestic merchant bar prices, such as 2*2 equal angles we highlight in our tables, also moved up to on the back of a $30/ton June price hike to $761/ton, again including scrap surcharges.
Even with many mills having limited floor stock and imports falling, at least through May, most US long product prices have remained largely unchanged. This comes as uncertainty about the impact of trade issues, including the longevity of the steel Section 232 tariffs and what unintended consequences they could create continues to linger, especially with rampant threats of trade wars and fears that the tariffs could have so much of an inflationary impact upon contractors that they could put some construction projects on hold or cancel them altogether.
