Price volatility returns to the market: Iron Ore Market Analysis


The penalties paid for impurities alumina, silica and phosphorus in iron ore fines reached record high levels in the first quarter this year.

The iron ore benchmark dropped last week. This was the first significant week-on-week change in two months. Iron ore prices had remained rangebound, and the days of price volatility were few and far between, until last week that is. Iron ore prices across the board fell and Metal Bulletin’s fines index averaged at $64.83 per tonne in the week ending Friday May 25.
