Linepipe producers look to raise prices as costs escalate
Rising HR coil prices are prompting domestic US ERW linepipe producers to seek higher prices on subsequent shipments. Prices are up about $30-40/tonne over the past month with import prices also posting gains. While the producers are placing blame on higher costs, demand is also steady and poised to move higher. Increased oil and gas investment, projected to rise 10-20% this year, translates to rising demand for oil and gas infrastructure.
Moreover, the market is expecting well completions to rise this year, making the need for gathering pipe all the more timely. Indeed, the number of drilled but uncompleted (DUC) wells in the Permian is at a record high since the number was measured. Also, the number of Eagle Ford DUCs is up to levels last seen in the most recent peak.
