Price correction sets in, vessel queues shorten at DBCT Australia: Coking Coal and Coke Market Analysis
The increased spot availability of vessels at the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) pushed down premium prices.
Coking coal prices saw the sharpest week-on-week drop in over four months. For the first time since December 2016, Metal Bulletins index for premium coking coal, fob Australia, fell each day of the week. By Friday January 19, it had averaged 6.4% below the previous week at $241.75 per tonne. Interestingly, Metal Bulletins index for hard coking coal actually rose but gained less than 1% from the previous week.
