Scrap prices defy expectations and stay largely unchanged: North America Market Analysis

September ferrous scrap prices held steady in most North American regions when the market finally settled on September 12 - one of the latest settlements in years. This was much to the surprise of many traders, who up to the end of August had been expecting to be able to pocket a $20-$30/gross ton price increase, especially with Nucor extending the outage of its Louisiana DRI plant.
