Chinese scrap exports emerge ahead of time: China Market Analysis


Low scrap prices within China may certainly encourage integrateds to include more scrap in their melt mix

In an unusual development, there have been widespread exports of Chinese ferrous scrap into Asian markets over the last couple of weeks. It is unusual because there is a 40% tariff on ferrous scrap exports from China, which usually makes it unviable to ship to the international market. But MBR analysis indicates that this could be a regular (albeit volatile) feature and consequently we provide some insight into why this is taking place and why it may continue.
