Large-diameter demand buoyant despite lack of MEGA projects: Middle East and North Africa Market Analysis


While large-diameter pipe demand remains stable in the Kingdom, there is ever-increasing local capacity which will meet this demand moving forwards.

While the Zohr pipeline project closes out in Egypt, with a likely winner expected imminently, international LSAW/HSAW producers continue to look across the Middle East for any future large-diameter linepipe activity.

While it is difficult to identify MEGA pipeline projects outside of Iran MBR has identified numerous large-diameter linepipe projects that could be built in the GCC, especially in Saudi Arabia. Of these projects, the largest one expected to be tendered this year will be linepipe required for the Harad gas field. MBR understands that a range of linepipe in diameters from 16” through to 56” OD will be needed, with a total tonnage of just over 240kt – both sour and non-sour.

Large-diameter linepipe activity thus remains strong in Saudi Arabia even after major projects such as Hasbah have been constructed – the current major pipeline project...
