Steel supply chain imbalances may restrict consumption: Coking Coal and Coke Market Analysis


The climb down in material prices highlights the growing caution among iron producers that hot metal production rates are too high relative to those of steel.

On slack buying activity and mounting concerns about an oversupplied market, prices continued their descent over the week. Premium and hard coking coal prices FOB DBCT Australia moved down by 1.9% week-on-week to $170.39/t and by 1.7% to $158.33/t, respectively. In contrast, mainstream quotes of hard coking coal in northern China were unchanged from the previous week, trading at RMB1,590/t ($231/t) delivered including tax.
