Margin pressure damages raw material outlook: Iron Ore Market Analysis


While the demand for higher quality ores may be trending higher, as these price spreads suggest, the overall pricing pattern for steel and steelmaking raw materials in the past week has been negative.

The rapid rise in the spread between the MBIOI65 and MBIOI62 continued over the past week to exceed $15/t for the first time since January 2014. The heavy phase of restocking we referred to last week, notably since June, when this spread was at a mid-year low, has endured and not surprisingly for typically higher Fe content Brazilian iron ore.
