Derailment on Aurizon line disrupts coal transportation in Queensland. A derailment occurred last weekend at Aurizon’s Newlands Coal Rail System, which delivers both coking coal and thermal coal to the Abbot Point terminal in Queensland, Australia. The incident resulted in “major infrastructure damage”, according to a spokeswoman for the rail freight operator who confirmed it. Metallurgical coal mines connected to the railway include Jellinbah’s Lake Vermont, Yancoal’s Middlemount and Qcoal’s Sonoma, sources told Metal Bulletin. One producer source said the derailment had a “small impact” on the company since it has enough stockpiles at the port for shipment, but others could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.
