EU prices remain stable: European Market Highlights
Attendees at Metal Bulletin’s recent galvanized steel conference in Bratislava, including ArcelorMittal, mentioned the growing likelihood of a request being put to the European Commission to investigate HDG imports.
In last months tracker, we mentioned that there was growing doubt over whether prices would head up much further this year, if at all, following an impressive H1 performance. Over the past few weeks this analysis has been proved correct as far as European prices are concerned but there appears to be growing belief on behalf of Europes steelmakers that they can push through further price increases before the year is out.
For now, average European prices of hot-dipped galvanized material (HDG) remain at around 515/tonne, a level around which they have traded since early July. It should be little surprise that there has been little price movement over recent weeks, with much of Europe only returning from their summer holiday season since early September.
