Russian exports plummet as Italian, US demand falls: Iron Metallics Market Analysis


MBR believes Italian mills purchased relatively low volumes of Russian-origin merchant pig iron in July given that many electric arc furnace steel producers usually scale back output in August.

Russian merchant pig iron shipments plummeted in July, as demand dried up due to the availability of more competitive iron units and lower steel production schedules in key export markets. Russian exports declined 47% month-on-month and 26% year-on-year in July to 283kt, compared with 534kt the previous month.
