2015 sees prices drift downwards even as economic indicators improve: European Market Highlights
Producers based in the EU have benefited from a continued weakening of the euro this year against other major currencies, which has made imports relatively more expensive and given European coated steel producers a boost in export markets.
2015 has been a year of more of the same for Europes steel industry, and for the regions coated steel producers. In particular, it has been more of the falling prices, although at the same time margins have generally held up well in percentage terms (see chart). Producers have, on the whole, merely been passing on falling raw material costs, although the most recent Q3 results suggest that some producers have begun to eat into their margins so as to preserve market share.
