Japanese benchmarks rebound from seven-year low: Scrap Highlights


Japanese scrap exports jumped 28% month-on-month to 639kt in October, compared with 499kt in September, given that improved demand was largely driven by a rebound in orders from steel producers in Vietnam.

Despite a firm rebound in Japanese basic oxygen furnace (BOF) and electric arc furnace (EAF) steel production in October, volumes remain well below year-ago levels. Similar to their peers in Northeast and Southeast Asia, Japanese mills have experienced increased competition in key markets from relatively low-priced Chinese steel exports throughout 2015.
