US prime grades trade at a discount to shredded: Scrap Highlights


Despite the modest improvement in demand, overall domestic scrap consumption remains relatively low compared with previous years.

US raw steel output fell to an estimated 1.60 Mt in the week ending 4th April 2015, as mills operated at an average capacity utilisation rate of 67.7%. It was the lowest weekly level since the end of January 2010, when production totalled 1.59 Mt. Mills produced 1.85 Mt at an average capacity utilisation rate of 77.1% in the corresponding week last year, according to data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute.
