No slowing down in Met. Coal market decline: Coking Coal and Coke Market Analysis


The Chinese government is showing growing concern over the flagging coal market.

The seaborne coking coal market continued to be lacklustre in the past week, amid thin buying interest. Well-stocked inventories at Chinese mills and ample supply of domestic coal made seaborne material less attractive. Unlike the stabilising signs seen in iron ore (which is admittedly close to ten-year lows around $50/t CFR) coking coal, which is under supply pressure, shows little sign of bottoming out. As a result, the Metal Bulletin Premium Hard Coking Coal Index fell below the $100/t mark last week to pause at $98.15/t on 13th April, down almost $2/t...
