Iron ore benchmarks hit a ten-year low last week: Iron Ore Market Analysis


The Chinese steel industry did not witness much of a revival this year in March as it traditionally does.

Iron ore benchmarks breached the $50/t mark on Wednesday 1st April and fell to ten-year low levels towards the end of the week amid bearish market sentiment. Meanwhile, bookings for seaborne iron ore increased slightly, as steel mill profit margins witness an improvement. However, mills are all adopting a low-inventory strategy, which will continue to weigh on iron ore prices. In fact, Metal Bulletin’s Iron Ore Index (62% Fe) lost $6/t over the past week to $47.08/t on Monday 6th April. ...
