Carbon Products: Little upward momentum in ex-China CPC prices


The impact of an on-going reduction in domestic demand for CPC in the Brazilian market has been increasingly showing up in the amount of material that is being exported.

Low sulphur content CPC (<2% S) in China has shown a $20/tonne increase in the past month. In part this was driven by an increase of around $15/tonne in low sulphur green cokes, but was given a further boost by pre-holiday restocking at some aluminium smelters. There was some upward movement in CPC pricing for material with 2-3% coke too, although it has been a little more muted due to greater availability of higher sulphur content feedstock.
