Australian seaborne prices climb along with export volumes: Coke and Coking Coal Highlights
Seaborne coking coal prices from Australia
make gains.
Prices of seaborne coking coal from Australia moved higher again last week, with hard coking coal trading at $160/tonne FOB Australia. Prices have been reasonably stable around the $150-160/tonne market since October 2012, with Chinese steel production in January expected to exceed the December 2012 average of 1.919m tonnes per day. China imported 36.3m tonnes
of coal in December, with coking coal accounting for around 6m tonnes.
Australian suppliers increased their shipments in late 2012, in line with the pick-up in prices. Hay Point Coal Terminal in Queensland shipped 2.989m tonnes in December, up by 10% from Novembers volume, and brought the 2012 total up to 31.163m tonnes, an increase of 1.1% from...
