Chinese NPI production up in April: Nickel Highlights


NPI output up 8.8% month-on-month in April, despite falling nickel prices and capacity utilisation rates as low as 50-60%.

Despite weak nickel prices, China continues to raise utilisation rates at some of the country’s nickel pig iron (NPI) manufacturers. According to Antaike, output reached 25,000 tonnes in April, which represents an increase of 8.8% on the March figure. Output is still down in year-on-year terms – off 6.4% on the previous April – as would be expected in the current pricing environment....
