Momentum stalls in manganese alloy market: Ferro-alloy Highlights


Chinese manganese alloy and ferro-silicon prices saw smaller gains than in Europe and the USA as supply was abundant against dull demand from steelmakers.

Manganese alloy prices rose sharply during the first quarter of 2012 as a prolonged period of price weakness prompted production cutbacks by manganese alloy producers around the world. The production cuts were focused primarily on silico-manganese, and a combination of actual shortfalls in material and the perception of impending shortages helped to propel silico-manganese prices higher.
