Japanese demand supports price increases: Asian Market Highlights
Exports to the USA increase as other buyers sit out of the market.
Prices in Asia for hot dipped galvanised material have, for the most part fallen in January on a month-on-month basis. Chinese domestic material fell from $791/tonne to $776/tonne; this represents an 8% decline year-on-year in what was the beginning of a years worth of price slides, however, China still remain a dominant player in the coated markets. Japanese mills have been able to increase prices on a month-on-month basis as demand remains steady, prices have picked up from Decembers level of $1,191/tonne to this months price of $1,321/tonne.
Indian mils have also been able to increase their prices this month. Hot dipped galvanised material is now changing hands at the $873/tonne, up from Decembers price of $838/tonne, prices still remain depressed when compared year-on-year with a 4% price decline.
