Winter weather and the (on average) two-week holiday account for a slow December as customers shut their warehouses and reduce stock.
All round uncertainty means an anxious time for most extruders – only those dealing in hard alloys can escape the feeling that the seasonal slowdown could become a longer hiatus. November saw no improvement to the mostly sluggish markets that have characterised the second half, but it was no worse either – there’s something to be said for stability! A few (possibly temporary) opportunities have opened up in the gaps created by Sapa’s rationalisation of its French and Belgian plants.
