Structural tube price hike isn’t taking hold: Americas Market Analysis


The market could continue to be lacklustre through next year as well should construction demand not improve.

As we predicted last month, it does not appear that the price hikes announced by US structural steel tube mills is taking hold in the marketplace. In fact, it appears that Midwest HSS mills, who had announced a $40/short ton increase in September, have instead scaled down their prices to about $940/ton on the back of falling hot-rolled coil prices, continued weak construction demand and the traditionally slow end of the year growth. West Coast producers, who had been pushing for a $60/ton price hike, have also abandoned those efforts.
