Throwing a spotlight on iron ore prices in Europe


The Chinese spot market made iron ore pricing more transparent in China. We try to shed some light on the still opaque European market

The iron ore industry maintains its magnetic attraction. Iron ore prices CFR China are quoted at around $160/tonne for 62% ferrous content materials, showing a remarkable resilience in the face of other commodities’ much faster falling prices. We know many things about the Chinese market mainly because of the spot market that developed there, which has increased the information available about iron ore pricing.

The same is not true for other import markets, which make greater use of longer term...
