ArcelorMittal trims EU output further: Global tinplate market highlights
ArcelorMittal are determined not to back down on its increases in quarterly and second-half prices.
ArcelorMittal has taken additional action in Spain with the virtual idling of its Aviles & Gijon facility with a combined capacity of 650,000 tpy. The lines were taken down in the first week of August and are due to remain idled until the end of September. Output at the tinmill lines had been running at around 50-55,000 tpm, indicating that the total cut is around 100,000 tonnes. This is a significant reduction, particularly when taken with the French cuts. At a combined 60,000 tpm, this is equivalent to around 15% of EU output over August and September.
