US surcharges falls stalls purchasing: Stainless Steel Market Analysis


The last couple of months have seen some strong increases from the distributor sector.

US mills announced a fall in surcharges for May. These were much anticipated. So much so, that many service centres had held off on placing April orders. Months-in-hand inventories at service centres dropped to 2.6, down from 3. The mills had tried to avoid this purchasing hiatus by announcing base price increases ahead of the surcharge prices. Though, this failed to stimulate the market, as May transaction prices will most likely be lower, with June seeing a further decrease.Orders...
