Tinplate prices subdued in early 2011: Global Tinplate Market Highlights
Tinplate prices have yet to increase this year.
Steel prices have been on a bull run since the end of 2010. True to form, tinplate prices have been relatively static. This is not that surprising, for at least two reasons. Firstly, the time delay involved in processing HR coil into tinplate means that high HR coil prices today may not feed through to the tinplate market until March or April. Secondly, with most end-users of tinplate buying on long-term contracts, there are at times insufficient spot market offers to get a sense of how tinplate prices compare with substrate prices on a week-by-week basis.
