Chinese restocking activity buoys prices for now: Asian Market Highlights
Asian buying activity has been hesitant over the last month.
HDG prices saw an uptick in the region with buyers stepping back into the market after Christmas. Even before the new year though, prices across Asia had been on the up thanks to substrate prices. HRC prices saw a 3% increase over the past month which encouraged Chinese domestic HDG producers to increase their 1mm zinc coating prices by 4.4% to $846/tonne ex-works.
Prices will most likely see a further uptick next month on continued restocking activity. Mills in China are reporting low inventories as market sentiment over...
