2011 off to a slow start: European Market Highlights
The European market remains in relative balance in January with few orders being matched by constricted supply from mills.
While prices and buying activity picked up at the end of 2010, MBR understands that the market has got off to a slow start in 2011. The speculative purchases seen at the end of last year, in order to pre-empt an expected further rise in prices, has mitigated the need for buying so far in January. Coil prices in Europe have risen in the last week, however by an average of 20-30/tonne across flat products and this will likely precede further price rises for HDG in the next month.
