Chinese coking coal prices stay steady on restricted supply: Coke and Coking Coal Highlights


Transactions for import coking coal showed little movement on last week and market participants told MBR that although import prices did not gain, Chinese buyers were active in placing orders

MBR understands that Shanxi province coking coal prices held steady at Rmb1,350/tonne ($197/tonne) in the last week, thanks to persistently restricted supply. Coal mine consolidation across the province and shutdowns at smaller mines over recent months has lead to a decline in output, which in turn has helped to support prices. According to the Coal Trading Centre of Taiyuan, Shanxi sold 383.71m tonnes of coal to other provinces in the first ten months of 2009, down by 103.61m tonnes or 21.3% on the corresponding period of 2008.Transactions for import coking coal showed little movement on last week and market participants told MBR that although import prices did not gain, Chinese buyers...
