Macroeconomists have been readjusting their forecasts of Chinese GDP growth in 2009 as it becomes clear that the Chinese governments stimulus plan has had far-reaching effects over the previous two quarters. Estimates that growth would be in the region of 6% for 2009 have been raised to around 8%. As higher GDP growth implies higher steel consumption this year, MBR has revisited some of the calculations we made earlier to see just how closely Chinese crude steel output matches the level of steel demand implied by 8% GDP...
