Surcharges up, base prices stable: American Highlights
Business remains difficult in the US stainless sector although base price increases announced last month are holding.
The nascent recovery in nickel and ferro-chrome prices has caused surcharges to rise for June by approximately $189/tonne for 304 material, and we are anticipating a further rise of $117/tonne for July (see alloy highlights section).
This has in the past led some buyers to bring purchases forward in order to avoid higher prices in the following month, but we do not believe there will be a marked increase in sales as a result of this surcharge movement.
