US market very weak: Silicon metal highlights
Silicon metal demand is poised to get even scarcer in coming weeks.
US secondary aluminium production is falling sharply in response to the troubles facing the domestic auto sector, notably the recent idling of Chrysler and General Motors works. US silicon metal prices are down to $1.12-1.18/lb, from $1.16-1.25/lb. The spot price has fallen over 40% since hitting a high last summer of around $2.05/lb.
