Domestic prices buoyed by export activity in January: North American Highlights
Domestic prices have been inching up in January.
Domestic prices have been inching up in January. HMS No 1 prices have shown the biggest gain on average rising by $18/long ton to $208/long ton, while shredded material increased by 6% to $260/long ton.
On the export market East Coast yards have been able to command a premium compared with those on the West Coast largely because shipment activity to Turkey is greater than that to Asia with HMS No 1 export prices gaining around $40/long ton month-on-month to reach $260/long ton, while East Coast shredded material is trading in the range of $275-280/long ton.
